Small beginnings are special. Well established and thoughtfully initiated, they are a very practical way to see individuals, families and communities turned around from a lifestyle of poverty. This week I’ve received such an encouraging report from a maritime friend involved in such projects. Having come from such background to be a professional seaman, he now desires to see others enabled to take a similar route.
Another initiative is the building of a school on donated land in a country which is emerging from some years of unrest. It is wonderful to see the motivation and vision of those seeking to bring an enhanced lifestyle into their communities. Believe strengthening communities is so special.
A good friend from Papua New Guinea has established a new initiative. He has called it the AMBAM FOUNDATION. It seeks to assist young people with life-style challenges. The name is in honour of his mother who started caring for such youth and her son has taken it further. From a small beginning, a network of assistance is being developed enabling such youth to develop skills and attitudes to enrich their lives.
Another friend in Africa is seeking to encourage micro-entrepreneurs as they develop their businesses to bring increased care for their families. There is a group of some 11 of these potential businesses “on the runway” as it were. Am currently networking with other businessmen internationally to channel advice and guidance to these keen folk.
Training such micro-business managers is also the vision of friends in South Africa. They coordinate training seminars internationally each year. Ongoing encouragement is given also to ensure, as much as possible, that the new micro-businesses are sustainable. So good to see such brilliant initiatives emerging.
