It has been wonderful to meet several people who showed keen alertness in caring for their clients.
In a London Underground station, I was topping up my Oyster travel card. A staff member noticed that I’d made an error on one journey. I had paid too much. He graciously made an adjustment. He then gave me a new total and provided me with a printout for reference. I thought this was tremendous customer-care.
In a restaurant, I was looking through the menu searching for the right meal. A light snack that would match my budget was the goal. One of the staff kindly guided me. Using wonderful creativity, she came up with a very pleasant meal. Such thought and care is always refreshing to experience. It says so much about the character of the young sales-lady as well as the training her company provides.
A similar incident took place in a hotel at lunch time. The waitress, in conjunction with the Chef, put together a couple of side-orders to make a very nourishing mini-meal. Again, alert creativity in the commercial sector is always a wonderful thing to encounter. Taking quality time with customers and being sensitive to their personal preferences is a great skill. The menu we jointly created could also be introduced for the enjoyment of other customers in the future.
In an estate agency, a young sales lady took time to just talk for a few minutes about general matters. This gave the customer a great sense of genuine interest. It was an encouragement to return to the agency that could possibly lead to a house sale. Being a real person and taking time to talk is so essential. It is deeply woven into the cultures of the East. Sometimes, however, it has been obscured by other perceived priorities in the West.
In a busy train station, an adviser took real interest and pleasure in researching just the right ticket for me. Such detail and desire to serve the customer well is always a joy to encounter. The trip worked out perfectly. It shows what creativity can be available if time is taken to explore. On the same journey, in my excitement to arrive at my destination, I overlooked swiping my Oyster card. A day of so later, another adviser kindly sorted things out for me.
Seek to be a person of alertness and generosity – give quality time to folk you meet today.
