Walkers and Talkers
In a spacious hotel lounge, I met up with the co-ordinator of a group of 8th-Decaders who were enjoying an hour's break over a cup of coffee during their weekly stroll through the countryside. The organiser had actually come to apologise for their lively chattering and trusted it had not disturbed me. Of course not, it was great to see folk enjoying one another's company.
Their aim is to meet up once a week for a couple of hours or so to explore different parts of the countryside. The route always includes a restaurant/ coffee shop or hotel with character for the half-way break. The plan was to pitch the walk to match the member with probably the greatest determination but also the most challenging physical limitations. It was great to see the way they cared for one another and sought to inspire and encourage a sense of comradship.
The group could be as many as 10-15 but there were just 4 of them in the hotel. What a pleasant surpise to bump into such a creative and entreprenurial group. Maybe you could organise such a group in your area or encourage others to form one. Walking, talking, enjoying the summer weather, appreciating special refreshment as well as exploring new environments all contributed to a refreshing and rewarding time.
Go for it......
