On the Pavements

Some £400,000 or more.....just there for the finding.... On the Pavement

Talking one morning with our rubbish/garbage collector/dustman, I noted a collection box fixed in his cab for the Children's Society charity. I commented on this, asking if he and his colleagues were seeking donations.  He then explained an amazing fact.  The box was for coins which they found daily on the ground during their course of duty.

Asking how much they collected each year, he replied "We usually reach the £60 mark".  Rapidly making some mental calculations, based on the number of cities in the UK and the estimated number of refuse vehicles in operation in each of them, the total was quite a remarkable sum of money.   There are some 70 cities in the UK, quite apart from the towns and villages. Each would probably have at least 100 trucks.  60x70x100 = £420,000++. Quite a discovery.

Such an income would be a great asset to an orphanage or children's centre, in fact any charity would really get excited about such a sum to boost their fundis.

Keep your eyes open when walking...

IDEA: See how much you can collect in a year for your preferred charity!!... This really does work - I am finding coins right there on the pavement/sidewalk  - small amounts but they add up over a year. The best places are carparks and bus stops.
