StudentdMoral Confusion

The current lack of understanding about real values and principles of life seems to stem from the fact that minimal teaching is being credited to these subjects in the early years of childhood.  In the same way as various parts of the human body grow and develop during a child's life, so the moral fabric/foundation of their lives is being crafted by observation, absorption and direct teaching in the formative years.

There is an old story of a multi-storey building in which cracks appeared at the 25th floor or so. This seemed to be such a mystery to all the researchers until one of them investigated the basement. There he discovered one of the thermal engineers was discretely "borrowing" bricks to build a fireplace in his home. Seemingly, such a small loss of materials seemed to be insignificant!!

Huge social challenges are faced in our global village today and many of them can be traced back to the early years in life. Much time and corporate wisdom is being ploughed into seeking answers and solutions to these "cracks" but the moral foundations are lacking vital principles and values.  Making course corrections in later life is not so easy or effective.

Pollution of the environment is the "in-thing" right now and it seems immense, almost insurmountable. However, the moral/ethical pollution of multitudes of lives is often placed on one side as an unfortunate trait that seemingly is not being addressed or having little relevance in the search for effective solutions within global societies.

There is an urgent need for generous insight into these foundational areas of our family and community life.
