A creative volunteering initiative in Yeovil encouraged and initiated by Somerset Youth is seeking to locate a mobile centre/bus that could tour the villages of the county to promote volunteering. Still searching for the Sturmey Archer gears. Here is a note from the designer who would like to use them to develop a new version of the "Off the Road" wheelchair which he is calling: "The All Terrain" model.

Thank you for the suggestions re the 2^nd hand S Archer hubs............. I would still be quite keen to get hold of 1 or 2 wheel-hub complete, so as to further develop something useful out there.

An excellent medical project in Tanzania is seeking funding to freight a small boat to the country to continue with their mobile medical services. If you know anyone willing to assist then please let us know.

12 November 2010: Here is a special request from a friend which I recommend to you. You might be able to give some assistance or advice or contacts:

A recently opened Medical Centre on the coast of Tanzania has just been given two boats for modile medical work along the coast. Many villagers cannot get to the Medical Centre, and the boats would take Baby Clinic and other services to them. However these boats are in Lymington, and the charity (Fisherfolks Charitable Dispensary Trust) is urgently seeking means of transporting them to Tanzania. The boats are about 10 feet long, picture attached.Options could include sharing a container, one boat could be stacked on top of the other leaving half a 20 ft container for other things. Ideally they would be offloaded in Tanga but either Dar es Salaam or Mombasa could also be possible. 07 September 2010: Am seeking encourage a couple of young folk to generate the funding to take their private pilot's licence. They desire to move into a special branch of the aviation world that seeks to provide airborne back-up and service for those in remote areas or in regions of instability. They would be working with development agencies. Should you be aware of funding agencies or trusts that would be interested to assist in such cases, do let me know.

10 January 2010 BIKE PARTS FOR NEW PROJECT: A new type of wheelchair is being developed called an All Terrain version. In order to complete the protoypes parts from PO Delivery Bicylces or similar design of bikes are needed. If you have knowledge of a a sources for an initial two bikes with possible further quantities later, then please be in touch.....

UPDATE: 04 March 2010 Some initial research has revealed that Sturmey-Archer actually make the gearing for the Pashley bikes used by the PO. If you know of any good sources for some of these gears then do let us know.

UPDATE: 10 April 2010 The initial need is for two or three Sturmey Archer gears to use on the prototypes.

10 December 2009 MICRO-FINANCE: There are many projects using micro-finacing methods very succesfully. It is a wonderful way for inviduals, families and communities to generate funding for living. Two of these projects which I recommend are: Shared Interest and Opportunity International. You might like to take a look at these and even consider becoming involved yourself.

03 December 2009 SAFETY BELTS FOR COACHES: While travelling recently a fellow passenger had considerable difficulty in fastening her safety-belt. The driver assisted and said they were always having a problem and from his point of view they were not the best of designs. I also have encountered such difficulties. When travelling frequently or long distances one does not really appreciate such challenges.

DO YOU HAVE ANY CONTACTS WITH SAFETY-BELT DESIGNERS/MANUFACTORERS WHO COULD POSSIBLY ASSIST IN THIS AREA?
