Generosity-shaped Generosity Shaped

Thinking afresh of the immense expanse of the universe and beyond, is a worthwhile exercise. The following quotes poignantly describe a little of what is known of our generosity-shaped Creation.

"In our sun alone, there is room for 1.25 million earths such as ours. And the sun itself is only one star among a great group of such stars. On beyond the Milky Way, in immeasurable distances, are yet other systems such as that of Andromeda, with its countless suns." "Words that Circled the World" by Richard Bewes page 99.

Stephen Hawking of Cambridge University describes the earth in these terms: "….a medium-sized planet, orbiting around an average star in the outer suburbs of an ordinary spiral galaxy, which is itself only one of about million million galaxies in the observable universe. Yet the strong anthropic principle would claim that this whole, vast construction exists simply for our sake. This is very hard to believe."

Such thoughts are somewhat overwhelming yet it is good to step aside and give thought to wider issues, especially to the generosity of the Creator,  The stars at night, the myriads of underwater fish, mega flocks of migrating birds, a magnificent sunset rich in ever changing colours are visual reminders of that generosity. If one employs the telescope and microscope then the wonder increases amazingly by leaps and bounds.
