Capturing Pictures on CDs  Capturing Photos

Daily our eyes are capturing and filtering thousands of colourful images. Rich colours, delicate textures, inspiring scenes and intricate details impact our minds bringing delight or concern, pleasure or sadness. Our inherited optical and mental gymnastics enable us to relate to and intergrate with our surroundings and community neighbours.

However.....

Some 161 million folk internationally suffer from sight limitations http://www.euro.who.int/europeanhealthreport (WHO 2002 report).

What a challenge! What an opportunity for creative, generous sharing.  There is so much to share, if we keep our eyes open to the world around us, describing the scenery, interviewing a colourful character, relating a memorable experience, commentating on a sporting event or cultural celebration, describing a work of art or even reporting the creative names on shops in the high street.  Seemingly common occurances to sighted folk but hidden mysteries to those living in silent darkness and a shroud of obscurity.

While travelling over the years, I have been able to record mini-programmes about 2-3mins for the Talking Newspaper in my home county which is distributed to around 300 folk with sight challenges. One side of the recording is the news both national and local, the reverse track is a magazine-type programme with immense variety - a cascade of audio pictures... My slot used to be called "Out and About with David". The feedback was very encouraging.

In 2008 I reconnected with the Talking Newspaper in my area. Trust to re-commence the slot of insights while travelling. This is such an encouragement to the person doing the recording as well as to those who will listen to the finished slots on their "Talking Newspaper".

Watch out for more news......
